Bedside Singers offer our voices in song to patients and their families at Victoria Hospice and also on the Inpatient Oncology-General Medicine unit in the Patient Care Centre at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC, Canada. more about us
The intention of bedside singing is to reflect whatever emotional or spiritual energy people may need during the time that we spend with them.
Our volunteers are trained to continually adjust their singing according to verbal and physical cues that they receive from patients and families.
Because we allow the listener to lead what happens during our visits, bedside singing provides the kind of responsive support that isn't possible with recorded music.
Bedside singing is done a cappella (voices unaccompanied by instruments) and in teams of only two singers.
Our prepared repertoire list includes a range of both meditative and upbeat songs from various cultures and spiritual traditions.
